There is a cover inside the trunk and once you remove it there is a butterfly nut that holds the tail light assembly.

But as you did, look inside the boot for a pannel to your rear light diiectly behind the light cluster, this should allow you access to change the bulb. if this doesn't work then be blonde and go to a garage!! no offence ment
